We drove back Saturday night part way, then allll day Sunday. Ended up getting a flat tire just about 3 hours away from home... and were on the side of I-80 for THREE hours. First my grama couldn't get the spare out from under the van, the bolt thingy that was supposed to release the cable, wouldn't turn far enough for the cable to extend completely to be able to get the tire out... So we called a number that the GPS system gave me for supposedly something to do with car maintenance in the next town... Well, it was a house number, I told the lady what was going on and ask her if she'd give me a number to a garage, she did... I called, they 'sent' someone... Well I told them everything I knew about our location, we were 16 miles from the exit (according to GPS and come to find out later IT WAS EXACTLY 16 MILES FROM THE EXIT) east bound blah blah blah, okay so 45 mins goes by, no guy... my cell rings, it's the guy who is 'in route to find us' and he is saying we ARE NOT on the side of the road he's been from such and such place to such and such place and we are not there... Um.. Sorry but YES we are.. So I describe EVERY single thing I can see, my grama walks a ways to find a mile marker, we tell him.. etc. "Oh I think I know exactly where you are... by this city..., I'll be there soon" hmm.. okay so another hour or so goes by... Still no garage guy.. My phone rings again, just as a man pulled over FINALLY someone pulled over, I ask the man who pulled over what the exit we JUST passed was (the wheel started shaking as I saw the off ramp to the exit, but I was in the far lane and couldnt get over till probably 1/4 mile after the exit). He told me the number and the name.. I tell the guy on the phone... He starts YELLING at me.. How he'd supposedly been by there TWICE, had JUST passed that exit and we are not there... WTF!? So I yell back... "I AM NOT GOING TO BE DISRESPECTED ON THE PHONE, I'M 8 MOS PREGNANT WITH A 2YO AND MY GRANDMOTHER ON THE FUCKING SIDE OF I-80 FOR TWO HOURS NOW, I'M NOT LYING TO YOU ABOUT WHERE I AM, I AM 3 HOURS FROM HOME, AFTER DRIVING FOR THE LAST DAY AND A HALF, I JUST WANT TO BE THERE ALREADY AND HAD YOU FOUND ME IMMEDIATELY WE'D BOTH BE HAPPY!" and the man says (still yelling) "WELL TELL THAT MAN TO LEAVE, I'VE ALREADY GOT 50 MILES INTO THIS LOOKING FOR YOU TO HELP, YOU OWE ME MONEY..........." I cut him off "I have told you EXACTLY where we are, even the man who LIVES HERE said exactly what I told you when I asked. We're in a RED minivan on the side of the road exactly where we've been for hours. If you find us, great, we'll pay you, we haven't lied at all, we just want to go home. Since you obviously are blind or a moron and you're rude and yelling at me, if you don't find us you can fuck off!" and I hung up. He kept trying to call again. But by this point I was crying and NOT going to deal with him...
The man that stopped got the spare out from under the car, then something got bent and he couldnt get the tire off or on or something (idk I was sitting in the van with Donovon my grama was out with the man)... he went to the store, bought a new w/e it was we needed, and came back to help us! He got the tire all changed, THEN (after 2 hours of sitting there) a state trooper finally stopped (2 had passed at that point w/ no help). But the trooper only pulled my grama aside to make sure she was 'comfortable' with this man working on our car... when he was already completely done with the tire! and then asked her if she wanted it towed, bc the cable thingy wouldnt retract like it was supposed to.
They ended up cutting the cable so we could get back on the road. We stopped at the next exit w/ a gas station (THE ONE THAT WE WERE 16 MILES FROM EXACTLY) and had them check all the tires and everything.. Then drove the last 3ish hours going EXACTLY the speed limit so as not to irritate the donut... so we spent 3 hours on the side of i-80. It could have been soooo much worse than a flat tire, we're all safe, etc. So even though it did SUCK horribly (my grama and I both ended up peeing on the side of the highway in 30ish degree weather bc we'd been there so long LOL)... and then after we got back on the road we BOTH had to pee about an hour or so after.. But I didn't want to stop (and she didnt want to ask me to stop to pee), so I drove 3 hours 15 mins straight w/ having to pee for atleast 2 hours... LOL I just did NOT want anything to happen when we stopped and us be stuck there.
so... SIGH. It made for a looong day. I called Curly after the guy made me cry and hysterically told him the story (he knew we got a flat prior) and then when I got home I called him again and he admitted "you were talking sooo fast I had no idea what was going on... except someone yelled at you, you were crying, and really had to pee!" hahaha!
But, I'm super thankful it was just an inconvenience and it wasn't anything serious. We're all safe and home. It was fantastic to finally reach our exit and know we were in the clear.
I went and saw Curly yesterday morning-ish, we were good and just cuddled and I talked pretty much non-stop for two hours... Not WE talked.... just ME. Ha. I get a little nervous around him, so I can't be quiet.. or still. I think I may have adult ADHD. :P Seriously. It felt sooo great to be back "with" him again and not ~1000 miles away.
Then I came home, took the stuff my grama had brought in from the van upstairs, unpacked most of it (some stuff is warm weather clothes that won't need to be pulled out until later). I attempted to put together the changing table, but turns out i'm misisng one "barrel nut" so I can't finish putting it together. I made D lay in his bed, we read a story and I went back to bringing stuff up.. He cried, but I decided to put together the crib, so I was in and out of the room bringing up those pieces, and then sitting on the floor putting it all together.. He fell asleep a while into it and woke up twice in the night. Around 5am he was crying pretty loudly, so I went in and got him and let him finish the morning in my bed since he wanted me to lay with him and I was NOT going to sleep in that bed LOL.
It's good to be HOME!
